About State Farm Insurance / What is State Farm Insurance ?

State Farm is a large group of insurance and financial services companies throughout the United States with corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois. The group's main business is State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, a mutual insurance firm that also owns the other State Farm companies. State Farm has expanded into the financial services arena, such as banking and mutual funds. The bank opened in May 1999 and is operated by State Farm Financial Services, FSB, a subsidiary of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. These are separate from its insurance products. State Farm Bank does not have branch offices. Its regular banking services, which include checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, and money market accounts, are available to consumers countrywide via the Internet or over the phone, and through agents. Home mortgages are available countrywide over the phone or through agents. Back in the 1950s, State Farm held a contest among the agents, to come up with ideas to expand the State Farm business. Robert H. Kent, agent in Chicago, came up with the idea of providing auto loans to existing policyholders. Robert H. Kent was friends with a local bank president at LaSalle NW, and the two teamed up to pilot the auto finance program. State Farm liked the idea so much that it was rolled out to all the agents. Robert H. Kent received royalties on the program for 20 years. This is a significant event, as it created the first marketing partnership between insurance companies and banks

From early 2012 to late 2016, I had their full coverage car insurance for my nissan 2001 altima sedan. If you hold a clean history on your driver license, they used to offer pretty good rates. I paid around $50 and they covered my car anything you can think of. For only 50 cents, they were offering emergency road service etc. But, I have no idea what happened in the late 2016, the rates were jacked up ridiculously. For basic coverage they started charging a little more than $60 in South Carolina ( yes, for some reasons I had to reduce my coverage from full to basic). After realizing they started charging me that much money for only basic coverage, I called and asked why they raised my coverage rate. They did not give me any rational reasons.

I liked their referral program that they had in the past. They would give both you and your friend some sort of discount which is very nice. I am not sure they still have that tho. I purchased car insurance in one of the southern states. After moving to north I had to find me another insurance company due to the state regulations.

Unfortunately, my experience is not as good as like others here. I bought a car and rental insurance from them few years back and not re-new my insurances simply cause their agency in my hometown insisted not to get my my issues fixed with them.

I have been never a customer of this company but one of my friends was. The agency in our hometown is a great man. He would do anything to make easier in his power, yet their rate policy is better than others.

When I got first car, one of my neighbors lemme have joint account in that my rates would be lower. I have never had any issues that I had to call them for assistance back then. Price was OK, for a young man who just bought his first car.

  • Hey Guys! I was wondering if there is anyone who is from upstate NY could gimme heads up on this company. I just moved here from south and have no idea if they are as reliable as like they are in the south.

  • it depends on the agent man. I can't really say you can rely on any insurance company in upstate NY, money milking is the thing for all the insurance companies. so it won't make much difference at all.

I have been with State Farm Insurance since I was 17. I got a call and they are dropping my insurance because of too many claims including their Roadside assistance. Had I know that they were going to ding me I would have bought AAA. After I had the nerve to tell me I had only been with them since 1996 (18 years) because when I was on my parent's policy it wasn't that important, I don't mind I paid the insurance. Which is cant be true and I outlasted two agents couldn't even get a phone call back other than to tell me I had not really been with them that long. They dropped my husband without any notice in 98 because he said he was going to another place for shopping. And I had some accidents, I only had one ticket during that time. Ever again State Farm and Geico insurance me on a much lower rate.
